Long Term Review: Dash Cycles’ Strike 9 Noseless Carbon Saddle
Posted by Elite Custom on
Last November, I received the Dash Strike 9, a noseless saddle with full carbon fiber construction and a well padded split shell. They gave it their reinforced, heavier duty layup for my 185lb body. And it weighed in at just 111 grams. Surprisingly, the odd shape of the saddle didn’t take too long to get used to. Basically, it’s just a truncated bike seat without the full nose, so all the important sitting parts are there, plus a vestigial tail. It did take a bit of work to get it adjusted to the right position, though, which was forced by the...
Sea Otter Classics: Praxis' New Carbon and Aluminum Wheels
Posted by Elite Custom on
C32 Carbon WheelsBetter known for their bottom bracket solutions and aluminum (and now carbon) cranks, Praxis is entering the wheel world with both carbon and aluminum models. The former is their $1,799 USD C32 wheelset that's been in the works for a few years now, and one that Praxis has put together with maintenance and ease of use in mind. That means that it's assembled with standard J-bend spokes (four extra included), external nipples, comes pre-taped and is built with a set of Praxis' own hubs that employ DT Swiss' internals for simple maintenance and compatibility with all axles and...
Sea Otter Classics: Praxis Carbon Wheels and Cranks
Posted by Elite Custom on
Praxis recently started making some fancy new carbon bits. First with Cranks and now with complete wheelsets. Starting with the wheelset, they took a custom, 3mm offset layup and laced it to DT 350 Hubs. Well, not any old DT 350 hubs. They had custom shells made with taller flanges to support their 2X lacing patter all around, minus the radial front drive side wheel. The wheels are 32mm internal and 38mm external. One of the coolest features we noticed is the flat valve shell. Pics of it can be found below after the specs. No more slow leaking valves....

Chris King accuses bike industry of ‘profiteering’ on Japanese tour
Posted by Elite Custom on
Does he have a point? With forty years’ experience in the bike industry, Chris King is someone worth listening to. He’s a man that knows how to make a good quality product and in this video you can see where the bottom brackets, hubs and headsets he produces are made. While this video may not featuring exploding turns or wild whips it’s still worth your attention for the criticism King lays on the industry. We recommend sitting through the whole thing but to get to the juicy bit skip to about five minutes in. King says: “I’m sure there are some companies that would like the...

10 Ways to Tell If Your Bike Fitter is Full of Shit.
Posted by Elite Custom on
10 Ways to Tell If Your Bike Fitter is Full of Shit. Bike fitting is big business. Having some version of “professional” bike fitting is the new standard for any bike sold above $1000. How do you tell if your bike fitter knows what they’re doing? Are they a credible, trained, experienced fitter or just repeating buzzwords in a kind of bike fit “theater” learned in a weeklong clinic under the guise of years of experience fitting athletes during the evolution of bike fitting? Here are ten checkpoints to assess the credibility of your bike fitter: Do They Ride? The...
